Ginzan Onsen, which translates to Silver Mountain Hot Spring, is a remote hot spring town that sits tucked amid the mountains. Take a trip back in time as you walk amid the wooden homes with white plaster walls. While the town was originally founded for silver mining, today it is known for its lovely ryokan (bathhouses) that sit against the river.

This photo was taken in Ginzan Onsen, a small town in the Yamagata Prefecture. It is three hours and 20 minutes from Tokyo on the JR Yamagata Shinkansen line.
From Tokyo Station, take the Yamagata Shinkansen line and get off at Oishida Station. From Oishida Station, you can take the municipal bus to Giznan Onsen.
Another option is to take the Limited Express 48 Liner bus from Sendai Station and transfer to Obanazawa. You can then take the bus to Ginzan Onsen from there.
Once you get off the Ginzan Onsen bus, go down the hill from the bus stop and walk along the river. After approximately 400m you will reach the bridge. The building photographed is the Royakan Nagasawa Heihachi and the bridge in front of it.
