Sendai Daikannon Buddha

avatar
@_deepsky
Appearing as a larger-than-life figure, the Sendai Daikannon is one of the largest Buddhas in Japan and the fifth-tallest statue in the world. Located next to Daikanmitsuji Temple, the stark-white sculpture vibrantly pops against the night sky in a residential area and stands out due to its color and size.

This photo of Sendai Daikannon Buddha was taken on a 1-chōme-3 Nakayamayoshinari, which is a residential area just south of the Buddha. To get to this location, you can either drive or take public transportation. By bus: There are several buses from Sendai, the capital of Miyagi, to this spot. To get there, go to Kencho Shiyakusho Mae (Sendai-shi Bus Stop) and look for bus 810, 910, or 825. The bus stop 仙台大観音前(バス)(Sendaidai Kan'nonmae) will take you very close to the GPS coordinates. This is the fastest way to get to Sendai Daikannon and Daikanmitsuji Temple. By subway: If you want to visit the east side of Sendai and then head to the temple, you can also take the Namboku Line until you reach the Asahigaoka Station or the Kuromatsu Station. Then, reference the GPS coordinates and head west. You can take the bus to do this. For a point of reference, look for the Japanese curry restaurant called Coco Ichibanya. I took the photo in close proximity to the eatery which is located southwest of the bus stop. Once you've passed the restaurant, continue walking on the street until you get to the GPS coordinates.
