Smoke by Tony Smith at Doha Exhibition & Convention Center

This image of the Doha skyline was taken while I was standing under "Smoke" by Tony Smith. This sculpture is located directly outside of the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center (DECC). You can take a car here, but the easiest (and fastest) way to get to this location is by taking public transportation. Ride on the Red Line until you reach the DECC stop and then walk east toward the convention center. Reference the GPS coordinates and you'll find the exact location of where I took this photo.

"Smoke" by Tony Smith can be visited during any month of the year—the photographing conditions will not change.

Throughout the day you'll be able to play with varying shadows from the sun. In my image you'll see a large portion of it shadowed, creating a nice contrast with the brighter parts of my composition.

For a similar composition, make sure you're standing below the installation to capture the leading lines from the top of the installation.

Shadow play can be really fun here! Don't be afraid to get creative and see how the sun impacts the shadows of the location.

As you can see in my photo, there's a person walking through the frame. I liked having someone in the shot because I think it provides a nice sense of scale. Be patient and wait to capture that perfect moment.
