Arabian Gulf Harbor Boat view of Doha Skyline

This image of the Doha skyline was taken on a boat in the Arabian Gulf. To get to this viewpoint, you'll need to rent a private boat/yacht tour out of the harbor in Pearl-Qatar. Once you're on the boat, ask the captain to point the nose of the boat toward the skyline view. For reference, you'll want to be facing the West Bay area of Doha to capture this perspective.

For the most comfortable temperatures, this outdoor experience will be most enjoyable in the fall and winter months. If you're looking for warmer weather, the end of summer seems perfect! In reality, you can photograph this scene during any time of the year.

A sunset tour will provide you with ideal lighting conditions. You get the best of both worlds—golden hour as the sun is setting and after dark when the city lights are on.

Don't go wider than 24mm, as to avoid making the background appear too small. A wider focal length will capture more of the scene, but you'll see less of the skyline.

I recommend positioning your camera behind the glass of the front of the boat to capture the reflections.

If possible, wait for the sun to be out of frame or centered behind the buildings.

Center your subject as much as you can with the skyline to create a sense of symmetry.

Suggest to your model that they wear a bright-colored shirt that'll pop against the sea.

Walk around the Pearl, which is a very popular area for enjoying the sights and sounds of Doha. Admire the towering buildings, educational museums and innovative hotels that are in the area.
