Outside of the city, you'll find the peaceful Al Samriya Riding School, which is a center specializing in the promotion of the country's equestrian heritage. Visit to see beautiful horses, taken care of by experts, housed in a top-tier facility that's as practical as it is photogenic.

This image was taken on the grounds of Al Samriya Riding School in Ash-Shahaniyah. In order to get to this location, you'll need a car. The facilities are located off the Dukhan Road, between Al Rayyan Sports Club and Al Shahanniya, inside Sheikh Faisal’s Farm. Before entering the premise, you'll need to check in with security and then proceed through the gate. Continue on the road until you get to the stone stable block. Take a right, then head toward Reception (about 40 meters). Park in the lot next to Reception and then make your way to the track. For more information on visiting, check out the riding school's website: www.alsamriyaestate.com.

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You'll be able to photograph the Al Samriya Riding School during any month of the year. In the summer, there can be extreme heat, so prepare accordingly.
Morning, midday and late afternoon will provide similar lighting conditions. I prefer the morning and late afternoon when it's a bit cooler and there aren't as many riding lessons happening.

Field tips

Bring along a wide-angle lens (24mm) so you can snap a photo of the entire facility.
The inside of the horse stalls (where this picture was taken from) can be dark. Make sure you can expose a bright enough shot with your lens to accommodate this.
Create your own framing with the arched structure, which will evoke a vignette effect in your photo.
If you have horses on the training field, don't hesitate to photograph them! They are very beautiful, and highly photogenic, creatures
