QF Ceremonial Court Geometric Structure Tunnel

This image was taken inside the white geometric structure in QF Ceremonial Court, which is a part of Education City. The best way to get to this location is by driving, but you can also take public transportation. Ride on the Green Line until you get to the Education City stop and then head southeast toward the court. Once you get to the area, look for a white tunnel (1 of 2) with shadows on the ground from the complex pattern that makes up the design. You'll find it directly in front of the Qatar Foundation Ceremonial Court and next to the shallow reflection pool with walkways to a middle platform. We used the tunnel on the right side, as the second tunnel had trashcans and other objects in it. Reference the GPS coordinates and you'll see where I stood to get this shot.

Due to the intense heat in Qatar, this outdoor location will be most comfortable to visit during the late fall and winter months, although you can access the tunnel year round.

In order to capture a lot of shadows on the ground, you'll want to visit this spot during the day when the sun is shining. We were there around 2PM for this particular photo.

A wide-angle lens (12mm-16mm) should be perfect so you can bring in lots of scale.

Center your subject within the negative space at the end of the tunnel so there's a focal point.

I also think it looks best to position your subject strategically with the shadows so they pop. And a bright colored shirt will really help to make your model stand amongst the white surroundings.

Hold your camera perpendicular with the ground to capture straight lines.

Move around to play with the exact composition. This area can produce a lot of great content—get creative!
