This photo of the Pacific Ocean and Cape Kiwanda was taken from the top of the sand dunes at Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area.
To get here, navigate to the parking lot next to Pelican Brewing (45.215611, -123.970761), at the intersection of Kiwanda Dr and Hungry Harbor Rd. At certain times of the year you can also park directly on the sand of Pacific City Beach (45.215464, -123.972035), also accessible from this parking lot.
Once parked, walk northwest along the beach towards the large sand dune. Walk up the west side of dune closer to the ocean, following the path of the fence. Continue along the fence until it ends. To your right, there should be mounds of sand and tall grass — position yourself behind these mounds, with the tall grass in your foreground, and face southwest towards the water, Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock in the distance.
From the parking lot to this point it is about a 0.5 mile walk.
