Hanibe Caves Buddha Head

avatar
@_deepsky
Constructed at the entrance of a cave, this towering Buddha statue stands 49 feet tall against the landscape of Komatsu, Ishikawa. It's one of the only places in Japan where you can capture a Buddah head of this size, so get out your camera and start snapping away for a one-of-a-kind photo!

This image of the Buddha head was taken near the entrance of Hanibe Caves (Hanibe Gankutsui in Japanese), which is in Komatsu, Ishikawa. To get to this location, take the train to Komatsu Station and exit on the east side. Once you get out, you will see a place where you can get a taxi that will take you to the caves. It will be around 15 minutes from Komatsu to the caves by taxi. You can ask the taxi driver to drop you at the Hanibe Caves parking lot. From there, cross the road to go to Prefectural Road 55, which is right across from the Buddha head. You will recognize the signs in my photo. Once you're there, you can position your model on the road, closer to the signs, and stand on the grass to photograph your model and the Buddha head. I used a telephoto lens, so I stood further back from the Buddha than it looks.
