Farrington Highway & Mountains from Mākua Beach Parking Lot

With epic views on either side of this mountain-side highway, you really can't take a bad photo here! The green mountain range is truly one-of-a-kind and it's especially photogenic if you're flying from up above the road. (before flying a drone, check and follow local drone regulations and permit requirements)

This image of Farrington Highway with a south-facing view of the mountains was taken from the Makua Beach parking lot. I parked and sat in the back of my pick-up truck while I droned the mountain that was south of the lot. If you are coming from Honolulu, you will need to take the H1 West Bound freeway towards Makakilo and Waianae. It will then merge from the freeway to Farrington Highway. You know you are on the right track if you pass Ko Olina and Aulani resort on your left hand side as well as the water park called Wet n Wild on your right. You will drive through the towns of Nanakuli, Waianae and Makaha on your way to Makua Beach. It should be around an hour drive from Honolulu. Once you have passed Makua Cave lookout or Kaneana Cave the parking entrance to Makua Beach should be on the left hand side. You will see a dirt path and an open gate. It is quite bumpy, so just drive with caution. There may be some cars going in an out as well, so be mindful! Once you have parked, set up your drone and launch it from where you are most comfortable in the lot. When you are in the air, you should look back towards Makua Cave (south) and you will see the highway and mountain that you see in the photo. Address: Makua Beach Parking, 86260 Farrington Hwy, Waialua, HI 96791
