This photo was taken from Kahala Beach, just northeast of Kahala Hotel, along the pathway that leads to the small island with palm trees.
To get here, park at the Waialae Beach Park parking lot (21.270140, -157.777566), which is directly off Kahala Ave. Note: the parking lot will open at 6AM.
Walk down to the beach, and then head left down the beach until you've reached the Kahala Hotel.
From here, you should see a small pathway that leads out into the water. At sunrise, the location of the sand bar perfectly line ups with the rising sun. I faced my camera along the pathway. Reference the GPS coordinates to see exactly where I stood for this perspective.
Directions from Waikiki:
- Head southeast on I-H-1 E
- Take exit 26B to merge onto Waialae Ave toward Waialae-Kahala Business Dist
- Turn right onto Kilauea Ave
- Turn left onto Makaiwa St
- Turn left at the 1st cross street onto Moho St
- Turn right onto Kealaolu Ave
- Turn left onto Kahala Ave
- The Waialae Beach Park parking lot will be on your right
