From US-395 you’ll turn directly onto Convict Lake Rd and take it about 3 miles till you hit Convict Creek. The road stops once you arrive at the lake and there is parking right there. No hiking necessary and you’ll see the view in front of you.
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Sunrise
You will get great reflections in all months except during winter when the lake freezes. Yet, even in the winter, shots of the lake covered in snow looks nice!
Sunrise is my favorite time to go because as the sun rises from behind you, it casts amazing light onto the mountains tips that reflects onto the lake. Sunset is also great if you have some clouds that will light up behind the mountains.
Field tips
Bring a wide-angle lens (17mm) to fully capture the reflecting landscape’s beauty.
Grab a small stone or rock and toss it in front of your lens to achieve a nice foreground splash.
A tripod with the use of graduated neutral density filters will also benefit your long exposure shots.
Experiment! Mix up your camera angles and get low for some shots.

Do nearby
About 10 minutes away there are some awesome hot springs. I suggest to camp out at the hotsprings in your car, drive to Convict Lake to photograph sunrise, then head back to the hotsprings for an early morning soak.
