Often referred to as "Little Breta of Tyrol", this epic mountain location isn't far from Innsbruck City. Along height-defying ledges, you'll weave around massive rock formation while checking out the craggy landscape. It's a great experience for more advanced hikers — just make sure to bring along all of your hiking gear!

This image of a giant rock formation was taken on the way to Steingrubenkogel (Kalkkoegel). First, drive to Kemater Alm and park in the Parkplatz Salfeinersee (47.191157, 11.261660). Then, hike to the Adolf-Pichler-Hütte (47.166704, 11.268000). At the hut, there will be many small trails that go toward the Kalkkoegel Mountains. Most of them will be marked and you'll want to look for the hike called Steingrubenkogel. Near Alpenklub Scharte along the hike to Steingrubenkogel, that's where the fun will begin! The via ferrata will start and in this particular area, it's graded as a "C" at the very top. On the hike, you'll have to weave around lots of ledges and towers up to the summit. Reference the GPS coordinates and you'll see where I stood to get this view of the rock formation.
