Few hiking destinations offer better views of Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker covered in snow than Artist Point. This adventurous area is an expansive landscape of breathtaking wintry backcountry that's relatively easy to access for experienced snowshoers. With a model in your shot, you can evoke a sense of scale and capture an image that shows how massive these PNW mountains really are.
This image was taken from the Artist Point backcountry zone of Mount Shuksan, with an east facing view toward the mountain.
First, drive along the Mount Baker Highway until you reach the Heather Meadows parking area (48.854327, -121.685911). From the Heather Meadows area, snowshoe or ski tour along the resort boundary fencing southbound following the snow-covered summer road to Artist Point. You'll eventually see signage making clear you're entering backcountry terrain. At that point, make sure you and your group have all necessary avalanche safety equipment and precautions. After entering the backcountry, continue to follow the snow-covered summer road until you reach Artist Point, which will be complete covered in snow.
Have your model continue east and then capture them when they are closer to the mountain, like they were in my image.
