Perhaps one of the most remote corners of the North Cascades National Park, these reflective lakes offer unique views of rugged peaks covered in snow and surrounded by towering trees.

This image was taken from Tapto Lakes looking south toward Whatcom Peak, which is in North Cascades National Park.
To reach this location, you'll need to hike to Whatcom Pass from either the Hannegan Pass trailhead (accessed from the Mount Baker Highway) or the Little Beaver Trail (accessed by ferry on Ross Lake). Either way, you're looking at a multi-day hiking and backpacking trip. From Whatcom Pass, find the rough hikers trail that heads north toward Tapto Lakes. Reference the GPS to get to the exact spot where I got this south-facing view of Tapto Lakes and Whatcom Peak.
Upon reaching the lakes, you'll also find a dispersed camping spot on durable ground.
