As the morning clouds casts a blanket of thick, white fog over the forest, Glacier Peak triumphantly emerges with its summit aglow from the first sign of daylight. Once you recover from the overwhelming view of the mountain at daybreak, you'll realize that you're surrounded by beauty in every direction you look. There are miles and miles of trails to explore and you'll see lakes, meadows (with wildflowers during summer) and incredible outlooks of the surrounding mountains, too.

This image of Glacier Peak was taken from Sourdough Ridge Trail, which is next to the Sunrise Visitor Center in Mt Rainier National Park. This location isn't very far from the parking lot, but it is a steep climb, so be prepared.
After you park near the Sunrise Visitor Center (46.914456, -121.643470), follow the trail head to the north end of the parking lot. Look out for the signs that lead to the Mount Fremont Lookout Trail. Hike for a little less than half a mile and then you'll get to the top of a ridge with a gorgeous 360-degree view of the surrounding area. Reference the GPS coordinates to see exactly where I stood. and once you're there, look out to the northeast and you'll be able to make out Glacier Peak on a clear day. It'll be pretty far off in the distance, so you'll need to carefully scan the horizon.
