Geylang Bahru MRT Station view of Escalator

I took this photo of the escalators in the Geylang Bahru MRT station in Kallang, Singapore. To achieve this viewpoint, I took the escalator to the upper level and walked to the other side of the deck. I faced directly opposite the escalators in the photo and made sure to get the ceiling sculpture and guard railings in the frame, too. By MRT: - Closest station: Geylang Bahru (Downtown Line)

The Geylang Bahru MRT station is suitable for photography year round and can be visited anytime.

Since it's underground, the time of day won't affect the light in your photo. You may want to consider visiting midday (like I did) in order to ensure there won't be too many commuters in the station.

In order to achieve this perspective, you'll need an ultra wide-angle lens. I recommend a focal length of around 16mm so you can effectively capture the ceiling and guard rails in your image.

Try to use the escalators as a visual guide to find balance within the shot. By aligning the escalators symmetrically on each side of your frame, you can easily direct your model to stand in the middle of the shot, which will lead the eyes to a centered focal point.

I think it's best to keep your camera as level as possible. If you tilt it too far up or down when using such a wide-angle lens, you'll likely end up with noticeable distortion in the architectural elements.

A tripod can help immensely in keeping your framing consistent.

The area of Kallang Bahru consists mostly of industrial and office developments, but there are some photo opportunities at the nearby Aperia Mall or Victoria Wholesale Center.
