Enclosed in a sunroof, and surrounded by luxuriant vegetation, this rain vortex is the tallest indoor waterfall in the world — and you'd never believe it was flowing over a four-story garden inside an airport!

This image was taken on the highest floor (the same floor as Canopy Park) of the Changi Airport in front of the west side of the Jewel waterfall, which is in Terminal 1 of the airport.
You can visit the waterfall after you land from your plane, before you take off or even if you're not flying at all! No boarding pass is required to enter into this area of the airport.
By MRT:
- Changi Airport (East West Line)
- Enter Terminal 1 through either the T1 Departure or Arrivals
- Stay on the ground floor of the terminal and head to the north side of the Jewel to get this view
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can photograph this view of the Jewel Waterfall at the Changi Airport during any month of the year.
The waterfall flows from 10AM-10PM, but to capture similar lighting conditions, I recommend shooting on an overcast day. Since you're so close to the ceiling, you'll be exposed to a lot of light. When it's overcast, it won't be as bright and you'll have a better chance of taking a photo that isn't overexposed.
Field tips
An ultra-wide lens (12mm) will allow you to photograph the entirety of the Jewel. It's a massive structure that looks even bigger in person, so make sure your lens isn't too narrow.
To create a sense of symmetry, try aligning yourself with the center of the waterfall.
I deliberately went closer to the leaves near the edge of the railing so that I could create some depth in my image. Aim to incorporate the foliage if you want to add that extra element to your shot.

This is one of the world's most luxurious airports, so take your time exploring. Inside the Jewel complex (where the waterfall is) there are more than 280 retail shops, as well as restaurants, a hotel and even an IMAX theatre.
Nightly, from 7:30pm-12:30am, there's a light and sound show that runs for about 5 minutes at the waterfall.
