The featured image was taken from the Anderson Bridge giving you a great view of the Singapore River and the Cavenagh Bridge.
Once you reach Anderson Bridge you’ll see a pedestrian walkway on your left. I stood at the middle of the walkway for this photo.
By MRT:
- Closest MRT Station: Raffles Place (East West Line & North South Line)
- Take Exit “B”
- Head north on Raffles Place toward Battery Road
- Turn right onto Battery Road and walk toward Fullerton Road
- Stay on Fullerton Road, following the road left at the fork, until you reach Anderson Bridge.

Night
Nighttime long exposure shots along the Singapore River are great all year round.
Visit between 7:30pm-11:00pm when there’s boat traffic along Singapore River (they pass thru every 10-15 minutes). This way you’ll capture better light trails!
Field tips
Anderson bridge is shared by both pedestrian and cars/public buses. Hence, the bridge may sway quite a bit when a vehicle crosses the bridge. A sturdy tripod is thus very important to prevent motion blur. Do pay special attention to the traffic before pressing the shutter, and avoid when there is a car or bus passing by.
By using a wide-angle lens (11mm) you’ll be able to frame the entire scene: The Fullerton Hotel, tops of the skyscrapers and the Singapore River.
I composed the towering buildings in a way that nicely framed my image. Walk up and down the bridge to find your perfect composition!
The featured image is a result of composite stacking multiple 30-second long exposures in Photoshop. Here’s are tips to get the shot:
- Place your camera on a tripod and lock it in position after you find your favorite composition
- Take a 'base shot' with 1 boat trail
- Do not move the tripod or camera position at all after taking the base shot! This is to ensure that subsequent images will stack well on the base image in Photoshop
- Capture a shot whenever you see a boat coming. Take at least 15 shots for a good amount of boat trails.
