This prominent tower on top of a hill overlooks the Scottish city of Oban and its sparkling bay. From the tower's viewing platform, you can experience panoramic views across the water, with the islands of Kerrera, Lismore and Mull in the distance, too. The grounds of the tower serve as a peaceful escape from the bustle of town life and from an aerial perspective, you're able to capture the architecture as it circles around the lush landscape.

This drone image was taken from the grounds of McCaig's Tower. I stood in the middle of the tower in the gardens and then launched my drone from there.
You can reach the tower by climbing 144 steps of Jacob’s Ladder — which is a fair climb, but the views on the way to the tower are definitely worth it.
For those who don’t fancy the steep climb, there's a small car park at the base of the tower (56.416476, -5.468416) where you can access the gardens from a short flight of steps.
By public transportation:
- Closest station: Oban (via ScotRail)
- Turn right toward Queen's Park Pl
- Turn left onto Queen's Park Pl
- Turn left onto George St/A85
- Turn right onto Craigard Rd
- Slight left to stay on Craigard Rd
- Turn right toward Laurel Rd
- Turn left onto Laurel Rd and the tower will be on your right
