The hike to Ryten has all of the ingredients of a perfect Lofoten Islands hike: sweeping vistas across the mountains and fjords, fun but slightly strenuous hike to a mountain peak, and a breathtaking view of a white, sandy beach. The view from the top of Ryten far down to the long golden beach is second to none.

This photo was taken at the end of the Ryten hiking trail in Norway. To get to the trailhead, route to this parking lot (68.0905388,13.1567405), which is in the village of Fredvang.
Around 150 feet (50 meters) from the parking area, in the direction of Yttersand, you will see a gravel road/driveway on the left side. Walk past the red house and continue towards the mountain. Stay on the right side of the peak as the trail makes its way south towards the pass at the back of the valley.
After doing the first climb up to the ridge, the trail turns west, past a small lake as it gains elevation towards the Fredvanghytte. Pass the hut while keeping the mountain ahead of you. You’ll see a lake off to the left in a few hundred more meters. Keep to the trail as it heads up the mountain.
You’ll find the more spectacular views by taking the ridge route off to the left, but be careful as the cliffs are steep and exposed. A cairn marks the summit where I took this photo facing the fjords. I recommend planning your route and checking the GPS coordinates for reference.
This hike is absolutely gorgeous and a must-do if you are in the area. It's also one of the few hikes in Lofoten that is not too steep. It should take you about 3-5 hours with lots of stops for photos.
