Drive north of New York towards Port Jervis and then navigate towards highway 97 to find this curvy road.
Use the GPS coordinates to find the exact location where I stood to take the photo. Once you're there, pull over onto the lookout spot "The Hawk's Nest" to get this view.

Field tips
I suggest using a telephoto lens to capture this shot. It's a large road and you'll want a precise shot. A wide-angle lens wouldn't allow you to compress or narrow in on the road.
Be patient to wait for a car to come by -- this could take a while since it's not a busy road. If you're with a friend, they could also drive by to make the shot easier.
As I stood at the lookout spot, I was shooting from a ground angle. I originally thought the photo would look better if I took it from a higher angle, but at ground level, the road appears more winding. It makes it more intriguing to look at from this perspective!

If you want to keep driving, I really love Phoenicia Diner. It's just north of this spot and they serve locally sourced comfort food from the Catskills.
