No matter the perspective, Manhattan always offers a spectacular skyline — but this Brooklyn view will give you vantage points of lower Manhattan, the East River and the 1883-built bridge that towers over the water, connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn. Visit at sunset and you'll be able to capture an incredible cityscape shot.

This image of the Lower Manhattan skyline, the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge was taken from the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge. You can access the Manhattan Bridge from Manhattan or Brooklyn by walking from Chinatown in Manhattan or DUMBO Brooklyn. The entrance for the bridge from DUMBO is near Jay and Prospect Street. The entrance on the Manhattan Side is Bowery and Canal Street. To get this perspective, walk on the bridge until you're standing near the shoreline of the Brooklyn side and then face toward Manhattan. By subway on the Manhattan side: - Closest station: East Broadway (F Line) - Turn left on Division St - Turn left on Manhattan Bridge By subway on the Brooklyn side: - Closest station: York Street Station (F Line) - Head northwest onto Manhattan Bridge

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Sunset
You can photograph the Lower Manhattan Skyline and Brooklyn Bridge from the Manhattan Bridge during any month of the year, as it won't look much different season to season.
This view is best to capture at sunset because the colors light up right behind the skyline. As it gets darker, you'll also be able to photograph the skyline lights as they turn on.

Field tips

There's a chainlink fence along the walkway, but you can normally find a spot where some of it has been cut out to stick you lens through for a clear shot.
This is a great spot to capture with almost any focal length, but for this specific shot, I used a focal length of 55mm. You'll be able to capture the entire scene without compromising the details in the image.
Using a tripod here can be helpful. This side of the bridge is walking only, so you don't have to worry about bikes or other vehicles.
Walk to the other side of the bridge, towards Manhattan, to photograph the view of Brooklyn. Get creative here — there are so many different perspectives you can shoot.
