When to go
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can get a similar photo year round, but spring, summer and the fall months are best to visit Torch Lake. The weather will be more pleasant during these times and people will be out on the lake so you can try and incorporate a boat in your shot.
You wont be able to get a good drone shot here when it's dark, so morning through late afternoon are the best times to find similar lighting conditions.
Field tips
Before flying a drone, check and follow local drone regulations and permits.
Be aware of your surroundings and make sure you have room before taking off with your drone.
Pay attention to the different color hues of the water, ranging from bright turquoise to a deep blue. Experiment with different balances of these to colors in your shot — they give off a great contrast!
Once your drone is in the air, fly at varying heights to get varying perspectives. There are some really unique viewpoints from above the lake!
Be patient and wait for a boat to pass through your frame. You can also incorporate swimmers for an added human element!
