Opera House Parking view of Detroit Skyline

This image was taken on the roof level of the Opera House Parking Center facing south towards the Boll Family YMCA. The parking center is located on 1426 Broadway St and the roof level can be accessed via street level stairs or by entering the garage and driving to the top. The Opera House Parking view is largely unaffected by the seasons, other than potential snow buildup in the winter on the roof of the YMCA in the foreground.

The skyline is best captured in the evening during sunset when the city lights turn on and the windows of the YMCA are illuminated.

If you enter the garage, make sure to check the parking rates for increased pricing on event days.

I used a wide-angle lens (24mm) to fill the frame with as many skyscrapers as possible and give the image a true metropolis feel.

Use a shutter speed of over one second to capture a smooth trail of steam from the distant chimneys.

Since you'll already be parked at the Opera House, take advantage and go see a show at the historic theater!

Kitty-corner to the parking center is one of Detroit's trendiest hotels, the Siren Hotel. Make sure to grab a drink at the iconic pink-painted bar located inside the hotel, the Candy Bar.
