Embrace the history of Detroit in the city's oldest neighborhood: Corktown. The idyllic homes line the street and create a colorful, suburban vibe.

The image was taken along Church street, facing the Corktown sign which is at the intersection of Church St and 11th Street. This location can be easily accessed by car or a ride share. Just follow the GPS and you'll find the exact spot I stood to take this photo.
Tips
When to go
Best season
May, June, July, August, September, October
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
This location looks best with nice weather — green grass, flowers, plants or the changing colors of fall. I wouldn't recommend photographing Corktown in the winter as it will very bare and gloomy (unless you want that look!)
Daylight times best illuminate the street and houses.
Field tips
I recommend standing on the side walk. If you shoot in the street, be mindful of cars passing by.
Try positioning yourself so that the houses are at an angle — this creates a vanishing point near the end of the street.
You can also try experimenting with different vantage points. Zoom in or get very far away for different compression effects to your image.

Explore the historic district of Corktown! One of my favorite coffee shops in the city — Astro Coffee — is in the area, too.
