This image of the framed garden was taken inside Hosen-in Temple (宝泉院). I purchased a ticket at the entrance and then proceeded along the route, where I could see the tree from the window.
From Takaragaike Station a bit outside of Kyoto, you can take Kyoto Bus 16 and get off at Ohara. The temple will then be a 10-minute walk away. Make sure to check the bus times: http://www.hosenin.net/access
