Tumpak Sewu Waterfall

In the middle of thick, slippery forests lies the breathtaking Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. If you want to see Indonesia beyond Bali, this hidden gem is a must. In my opinion, it's the most beautiful waterfall in the country.

This photo was taken at Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, located at the base of Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java. It's approximately a 2-hour drive from Malang City or a 7-hour drive from Surabaya to reach Lumajang. You can get there by taking Jl. Nasional III Highway and turn into this road (-8.225903, 112.914372) which will lead you to the parking area. There's a 10,000 IDR parking fee and a 10,000 IDR entrance fee. After you get to the parking area, head down the path for about 20 minutes to reach the bottom of the ravine. The path is mostly bamboo steps with bamboo railings, and it’s a little sketchy in spots, but nothing too difficult. You won't need to hike at all. Once you reach the bottom of the ravine, it's only a 5-10 minute walk to Tumpak Sewu. There’s one shallow stream to cross, with a small bridge covering part of it. Cross the bridge, round the corner, and prepare to be amazed.
