How to get there

I took this photo just northwest of Belcher Bay Park, near the docking station along the water. Once you're at the shipping center, there will be a space with rows of oil barrels where you can take a familiar shot.
Occasionally these barrels can change colors, but most of the time you'll find the red and blue barrels here.
By MTR:
- Closest Station: HKU (Island Line)
- Head south on Belcher's St toward Collinson St
- Turn right onto Collinson St
- Turn left onto Praya
- Turn right to stay on Praya
- Turn left onto Sai Cheung St N and then follow the GPS coordinates to get to the exact spot where I stood to take the photos

When to go
Best season

Best time
Sunset
Although you can find similar weather conditions all months of the year, I recommend visiting Sai Wan Promenade during the winter because the spring, summer and fall bring lots of rain.
Photographing the oil barrels at sunset brings out their color.
Field tips
To focus on the model, I suggest working with a lens that has a high depth of field (50mm-85mm). I used a 55mm lens so that there was separation from the subject and the background. The model was in focus, but the background wasn't too blurred.
Try centering your subject in the frame. With the model in the foreground, the blue and red oil barrel colors will pop in the background.
The natural light will act like a studio light for your model. Use this to your advantage and let the setting sun shine on your model's face — creating a warm glow.
