Hidden in one of the latest redevelopments on the island, this spiral staircase is truly a photographer's delight. You can't get a more perfect angle as the staircase twists and turns down each floor.

I took the featured image at the top of the staircase in the Tai Kwun Center for Heritage and Art. This redeveloped police headquarters is located in the heart of Central, Hong Kong. The easiest way to get there is by a car or taxi. Walk towards Tai Kwun Contemporary and you will immediately see the stairs upon entering the building. Address: 10 Hollywood Rd, Central, Hong Kong

Best time

Morning
All months of the year are suitable to photograph this spiral staircase.
Tai Kwun Contemporary is open from 11am to 7pm (until 9pm on Fridays), but I recommend getting there early to avoid the crowds.

Field tips

Bring along a wide-angle lens (I used a Moment 18mm lens and attached it to my phone) and shoot with a wide aperture, as the light inside the building isn't great.
Try to position yourself so that the spiral is symmetrical and in the center of your frame.
If you want people in your image, be patient. There are quite a few people walking up and down, but I got lucky with this one as there was a couple shooting their wedding photos.

There is so much to do in the heart of Central! I suggest walking around, grabbing a bit to eat or exploring.
