The featured image was taken from the Garden Road pedestrian crosswalk. I faced northwest towards Queen's Road Central and towering IFC Building.
You can access the crosswalk from either Garden Road or Des Voeux Road Central. Reference GPS coordinate for more context.
By MTR:
- Closest MTR Station: Central (Island Line & Tsuen Wan Line)
- Take “Exit K” and turn left to walk along Des Voeux Road Central
- Pass the Bank of China building and Cheung Kong building and you will see the elevated Garden Road
Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Night
All months of the year are suitable to photograph from the Garden Road pedestrian crossing.
If you’re going for distinct light trails (like my featured image) you’ll want to visit at night. The traffic is busiest during the week.
For a different feel, this vantage point faces northwest so the skies tend to look great at sunset.
Field tips
By using a wide-angle lens (14mm) you'll be able to incorporate much of the surrounding road and tall skyscrapers (like the International Finance Centre).
To capture car light trails on all parts of the road you'll need to photograph and stack two different images.
Explore along the pedestrian crosswalk for other great views. Don't forget to look behind you!
