This photo was Waimoku Falls was taken at the end of the Pipiwai Trail in Kīpahulu District in Haleakalā Natonal Park. This hike is part of the iconic Road to Hana, a fantastic drive that takes roughly 3 hours without stopping. Along the way, you'll discover waterfalls, beautiful cliffs, rainbows and delicious roadside snacks. The entrance to this particular hike is located 12 miles past the town of Hana, at the end of the Road to Hana.
To get here, navigate to the Kīpahulu Visitor Center parking lot (20.661898, -156.045183). Once parked, cross to the mountainside of Hana Highway then walk east (back in the direction of Hana) until you see the signposted trailhead for the Pipiwai Trail on your left. The trail is 1.8 miles until the falls and is probably one of the best-maintained hikes in all of Hawaii — it is well-marked throughout, with boardwalk in some portions to keep you out of the mud. The trail winds through bamboo forest and past other beautiful waterfalls before ending at Waimoku Falls.
Stand behind some foliage and add your own creative spin to your composition.
