Imagine a queen, sitting on plush furniture and walking through the baroque halls in an elaborate gown and you'll start to sense the enchantment of this palace. When you capture the scene, you'll feel like you can step back into time and walk right through the frame into a time of exaggerated elegance.

This image was taken inside a hallway in the Ludwigsburg Residential Palace. You can either drive or take public transportation to get here.
The only way to gain entrance into the palace is by a pre-scheduled guided tour, which you can make by reaching out to the palace (information below). The GPS coordinates provided is to the palace; the guided tour will allow you access inside and you will come across this hallway.
When scheduling the tour, you can book the Baroque Experience or the Residential Palace Tour. I recommend requesting a chamber maid, or Kammerzofe. Ask for Christine, she‘s gorgeous and she‘s the one in my photo!
By bus:
- Closest stop: Residenzschloss (bus 421, 421A, 427, 427A, 430, 444 or N41)
- Head north on Schlossstraße
- Take the pedestrian tunnel stairs
- Turn left
- Turn right
- Turn left and the palace will be in front of you

Tips
When to go
Best season
All months
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the Residenzschloss. If you want to enjoy the gardens, come in the summer.
Visit during the day when the guided tours take place (between 10am and 5pm) to capture the daylight from the castle's windows.
Field tips
When you book the tour, I suggest requesting a chamber maid as your guide. They will have on palatial attire and will add to the authenticity of your photo.
Flash photography is prohibited here, so make sure to bring a light-sensitive camera and have steady hands while you shoot your image.
Use a slight wide-angle lens (18mm) to capture the full width of the hallway.
Don‘t be misguided by non-proportional rooms. The chandeliers might not be hanging in the center of the ceilings, the walls are not always even and of equal length, but that‘s part of the castle‘s charm.

Do nearby
With the entrance fee to get into the palace, you'll be able to take a walk in the gardens. Take your time to sit down, check your map and try to find the next castle. There are many of them around the area!
Apart from the Residenzschloss, there's not much to do in Ludwigsburg. Have a quick snack in the mall next to the castle if you're hungry.
