Ziegenrückstraße Tree-Lined Road

This image was taken along Ziegenrückstraße road in Hohnstein near the Saxon Switzerland National Park. To get to this location you'll need access to a car. Park in the Knotenweg parking lot (50.974388, 14.093757), then walk north. Once you reach the GPS coordinates, turn around and face south to have a view of the curved road. I suggest standing on the far left side of the road to get the best perspective.

You can access this location during any month, but to get the bare trees with the leaves on the ground, I recommend visiting at the end of fall or beginning of winter.

I took the photo midday when there was overcast and little sunlight. It's a great place to shoot when it's foggy, too. Golden hour light peering through the trees will bring some interesting lights and shadows, give your image a much different feel.

Please be aware of your surroundings and watch out for traffic on either side of the road.

I recommend using a telephoto lens (85mm) to capture the detail of the curvature in the road and compress the scene. I used a lens converter so my Sony camera could work with my Canon lens.

Try having a model walk in the middle of the road. It would also make for a great shot if your model was skateboarding or driving a car — get creative!

Check out the famous Bastei bridge. This rock formation is one of the most incredible sights in the country and it's only a 13-minute drive from Ziegenrückstraße.
