Fish Market Square Colorful Houses

This image was taken of the colorful houses in Fish Market Square in Cologne. Route to the GPS coordinate and face west, which is opposite the Rhein river. By train: - Closest station: Cologne Central Station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) - Head east - Slight right toward Weltjugendtagsweg - Turn left toward Weltjugendtagsweg - Turn right onto Weltjugendtagsweg and take the stairs - Turn right to stay on Weltjugendtagsweg - Turn left onto Bischofsgartenstraße - Bischofsgartenstraße turns right and becomes Frankenwerft and the destination will be on the right

November through February will be the best months to capture the gray sky and snow on the ground.

On an overcast winter day, you can find similar lighting conditions in the morning, midday and late afternoon.

Try using a wide-angle lens (24mm) so you can incorporate all 5 of the buildings. You'll also be able to include the Great St. Martin Church if you're using a wide angle.

Make sure that the lines of the houses are straight. If they're not, you can always edit after, but aim for alignment while you're taking the photo.

Wait until after snowfall to shoot here. The color of the buildings will pop against the white snow.

Check out the Hohenzollern Bridge. Along the pedestrian walkway, you'll find thousands of padlocks from couple's who have come to lock their love onto the bridge and proclaim their love to each other.
