One of the principal sites of the Rhine Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site, this beautiful castle sits on top of a hill, overlooking the Rhine Valley and River framed by golden, sun-drenched leaves.

This image was taken along a path in Braubach, which you'll need a car to get to. You can park your car in either Falltorstraße or Kerkertserstraße and then reference the GPS coordinates to take a short ~15 minute walk along the path where I stood to get this view.
There are two paths that are parallel to each other and I recommend going on the upper path for better views. Reference the GPS coordinate in satellite mode for context.
Tips
When to go
Best season
April, May, June, July, August, September, October
Best time
Late afternoon
Spring, summer and fall months are the best times to photograph Marksburg castle because the trees won't be bare like they are in the winter.
For similar lighting conditions, visit during the late afternoon to catch the most beautiful sunlight and colors. You can also get similar conditions after sunrise, too.
Field tips
I recommend using the leaves, bushes and trees that are along the path to naturally frame the castle in the center of your photo. Having the leaves are directly in the foreground will add depth to your image.
Although I photographed this shot with a handheld camera, I also suggest bringing along a drone so you can capture the Rhine River in the background.
Walk along the path and get creative with your compositions and perspectives.

Do nearby
Check out the nearby village of Braubach, which is perfect for a leisurely walk.
For a good breakfast or a delicious bakery option, I suggest Café Maaß. For good ice cream, I highly recommend Eiscafé Venezia.
