Looking more like a robot manufacturer, this unique location is the perfect place to capture a sci-fi inspired atrium. The combination of vertical lines and horizontal architectural elements creates an aesthetically mesmerizing pattern that makes for a one-of-a-kind image.

This image of the capsule elevators was taken at The Ludwig Erhard Haus. Whichever metro station you get off, walk towards Kantstraße and turn right onto Fasanenstraße. After 50 meters, the building will be on your right. From here, you'll already be able to notice the white and gray-patterned elements outside. Make sure to take the very first entrance (most south on Google Maps). When entering the building, go to your right and walk to the security counter and ask them nicely about taking a photograph here. The security is super friendly here, so it shouldn't be an issue to take a photograph. I asked them and they had no problem with it at all! Next, you'll have to take the stairs right behind the security counter and go up one level. You'll reach the glass door to the atrium on your right and from there, you'll have this view. By Metro: - Closest Station: Zoologischer Garten (Lines U2, U3 and U9) - Alternative Stations: U Uhlandstraße (Line U1) and Kurfürstendamm (Lines U1 and U9) Address: Ludwig Erhard Haus, Fasanenstraße 85, 10623 Berlin, Germany

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You can photograph the capsule elevators at The Ludwig Erhard Haus during any month of the year.
The light in the atrium is best when visiting during sunshine hours. The roof consists of glass panels that let in ample amounts of light, making it easier for you to expose your shot.

Field tips

Please note that tripods are technically not allowed inside the building. Plan ahead and don't enter the building with one in your hand. Keep your camera in your bag if you want to walk by the security counter, instead of asking them if you can photograph the elevators. Then again, you could also just ask them nicely! They should allow you to without any issues.
For this shot, I used a mobile iPhone (iPhone XS) and attached an 18mm wide-angle Moment lens to capture a wider perspective of the atrium. If you have an even wider lens, you can get closer to the oval element in the middle to make it bigger while still keeping the same wide perspective.
The gray and white background also looks great if you want to include a model to the photograph. Position the model in front of the oval element and shoot from a very low angle for a great perspective lookup.
Because of the mono-chromatic background, it will also help to have your model dressed in bright colors. They'll stand out as another focal point and they can also serve as a sense of scale.
