The image was taken on the ground floor of the exterior stairwell of the Lloyd's of London building. From either Bank, Monument or Aldgate Stations on the subway, head towards Lloyd's of London. Once you approach the building, you'll find this view of the staircase at the Leadenhall St and Lime St intersection. Reference the GPS coordinates to find the exact spot where I stood to capture the photo.
If you're told to leave by security, please do so. This building is on private property and they have the right to tell you to leave.

Field tips
I used a normal lens here (40mm), but you could also try using a wide-angle lens. With a wider perspective, you can fit more of the stairwell into your frame.
To enhance the architecture, I suggest getting the lines of the staircase as vertical as possible. The appeal of the photo will be more aesthetically pleasing with a sense of symmetry.
Experiment with different viewpoints. You can get closer to the stairs for more of a detail-oriented shot or shoot from farther away so you can see the other levels of the staircase.
Be patient and wait for an empty moment of the stairwell.
