For a balanced view of the San Francisco skyline and the iconic Transamerica building, head to the intersection of Montgomery St and Green St. With a picture-perfect San Francisco cityscape in the background, you will have complete flexibility to compose your foreground. I’d recommend practicing product photography, especially using dynamic colors that will pop.

Best season

Best time
Late afternoon
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the Transamerica building from this location.
Visit in the late-afternoon for optimal sunlight. As the sun sets in that general area on North Beach, good light will illuminate your subject.
Field tips
Be careful — you’ll be standing in the middle of the street! I actually laid on my belly to laser focus on my model’s shoes, which was the key emphasis of my image.
By using a wide-angle lens (35mm) you’ll be able to compose the Victorian homes on the right side of your frame, as well as the Transamerica building rising in the left.
Pay attention to how you balance your subject with the road and skyline.
This is a great location for product photography and capturing the San Francisco skyline in the background.
