When to go
Best time
Morning, Late afternoon
All months of the year are suitable to photograph the underpass since it’s an interior shot.
Visit in the morning or late-afternoon (avoid office hours) if you don’t want too many people walking through the underpass. To avoid grainy photos, it’s also best to shoot when there is still light outside which helps slightly illuminate the underpass.
Field tips
By using a wide-angle lens (18mm) your composition will have a lot of depth and maximize the amount of circles (sections of the caterpillar’s body) in-frame.
I instructed the model to lie down on the floor under the light, but to pretend that the floor is the wall. I then flipped this photograph 90 degrees clockwise to create this unique standing effect of my model. Get creative in your own composition!
Try walking further down the underpass; there’s lots of great spots to photograph throughout!
Since there is not much light at this location, I emphasized the dark tones in post-processing.
