When to go
All months of the year are good to photograph the Marina Bay Sands with a drone.
Sunset and golden hour are the prime times to photograph the MBS, as the sun sets right in front of it and behind the cityscape, producing a beautiful warm glow. With the right weather conditions you might get pink clouds to add more color to your photograph.
Photographing during sunrise is not optimal as the sun rises in the opposite direction (behind MBS) and there won't be many colors to capture.
Field tips
A permit is required if flying a drone weighing more than 7kg, within 5km of an airport/military base, or higher than 200 feet.
The grasspatch is a big area so it makes flying easy!
I photographed in portrait orientation since it's the preferred image orientation when posting on Instagram, as it fills the mobile device screen, giving the audience a more 'wow' factor. Also, MBS building is very tall so you can capture more of its detail in portrait orientation.
I composed and centered the entire MBS building and its SkyPark. I also incorporated the cityscape and sky behind the MBS and the road in front of the MBS to give the image more depth. Experiment with your own composition!
If you're photographing on a sunny day where there is adequate lighting, try using the lowest possible ISO (~100) and a fast shutter speed (less than 1/1000 sec). If you're visiting on a cloudy day with little bright light, use a slighly higher ISO (100+ but more than 600 during the day) and a slower shutter speed.
