Near Opal Creek Wilderness, this dramatic and unique rock structure stands tall in the middle of a rushing river. On an overcast day, the emerald pools transform into dark waters and the fog casts a mystical layer over the mountains — creating a scenic, yet sinister, image.

This image was taken on the rocks along the Santiam River, with a northwest-facing view of Three Pools.
To get to this location, park in the Three Pools Day Use Area (44.840197, -122.312409) and then follow the set of stairs that lead you down to the river. From there you can cross the river along the rocks. Reference the GPS coordinates to see exactly where I stood.
