The azure waters of this iconic crystal clear lake are practically hypnotizing — especially from the dizzying heights of this cliff-side vista. Take a relaxed stroll and capture shots of Wizard Island, the 755-foot volcano in the middle of the lake.

This photo of Crater Lake and Wizard Island was taken off of the Discovery Point Trail in Crater Lake National Park. To get here, park at the west end of Rim Village and walk west until you reach the unmarked Discovery Point Trailhead, where the paved sidewalk turns to a dirt path. The trail continues west along the rim of the lake — you'll be able to get some amazing views in between the tree line.
To capture my exact perspective, follow the trail until you reach the referenced GPS coordinates and then walk down towards the rim line. From there, you can have your model walk northwest to stand on the cliff below. You should be able to get an unobstructed shot of your model, the lake and Wizard Island in between the trees.
Driving directions from the Annie Spring Entrance Station:
- Drive northward into the park 4 miles to Rim Dr.
- Turn left on to West Rim Dr and travel 2 miles to Rim Village Road Parking Area
