Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
Visit Taughannock Falls in the late spring or summer. Everything will be in full bloom and the green foliage will be especially vibrant after the rainy season in early spring. You can also visit the location in the fall to capture the changing leaves, or in the winter when the waterfall is frozen.
Visit anytime from morning to late afternoon for the best light. Be aware that the morning and afternoon can be overly crowded.
Field tips
By using a wide-angle lens (29mm), you'll be able to capture the overlook surroundings as well as the beautiful waterfront scene.
The greenery in the foreground adds a nice framing element to the waterfall, so try to frame the lush landscape and stone staircase in your composition.
Try positioning yourself so that the waterfall is in the center of your frame. This will create a nice sense of symmetry for your image.
