Beneath a breathtaking sunset, take in the waterfront views of Manhattan's skyline. This location is perfect for a post-storm photo — creating cotton candy-colored skies.

This image was taken on the the pier of North 5th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I stood at the end of the pier near the metal sculpture, facing northwest towards the Empire State Building.
By Subway:
- Closest Station: Bedford (L train)
- Head northwest on N 7th St
- Turn left on Kent Ave
- Turn right on N 5th St and head toward the East River

Sunset
As long as the weather is mild, you can find similar conditions year round.
I highly recommend going at sunset after a big storm. The large storm clouds will look amazing against the colorful setting sun.
Field tips
When I take my photos, I really like the subject to be small. It puts the focus on the background and it's also a great tool for scale. In this image you can see how expansive the skyline is because the subject looks so small.
Experiment with the positioning of your model. Make them go off center, then to the other side. See what perspective you like best!
Try using the metal sculpture to frame your photo. It should be the focal point, since its the largest object in the shot, so stand directly behind it.

Do nearby
One of my favorite ice cream shops, Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream, is close by! They serve some of the best ice cream and they have vegan flavors, too. Head south on N 5th St until you get to Wythe Ave and the shop will be on your right.
Check out Smorgasbord! This open-air market is open in the spring, summer and fall months from 11AM-6PM every Saturday. It's a must-see if you're in the area.
