The featured image is of the Michael Clinton Swimming Pool on PolyU’s main campus. It’s without water when it’s closed.
The pool is located in between Shaw Sports Complex and the Jockey Club Innovation Tower. I stood on the platform of the Jockey Club Innovation Tower for this vantage point. View the GPS in satellite mode for context.
The MTR Station:
- Closest MTR Station: Hung Hom (East Rail Line & West Rail Line)
- Take Exit "A1"
- Follow the Pedestrian Bridge to enter The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
- Go straight then turn right on Yuk Choi Road
- Once you reach the Jockey Club Innovation Tower, turn left
- Walk till the end, and you’ll find the swimming pool
Tips
When to go
Best season
January, February, March, December
Best time
Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
If you’re looking to have a stroll in a drained pool you’ll need to visit during off-season months: December, January, February and March. Otherwise, it’ll be quite a different scene!
You’ll want the pool to be hit by strong sunlight so definitely visit before the sun starts to set.
Field tips
Explore different vantage points around the pool. I actually chose to photograph from the platform at the Jockey Club Innovation Tower.
By using a wide-angle lens (35mm) you’ll be able to focus on sections of the pool while avoiding distracting surroundings.
If you’re photographing a model consider having them walk across the pool parallel to the swim lane lines.
