Hängebrücke Klausbachtal Suspended Bridge view of Ramsauer Dolomites (fog)

Along a hiking trail, you'll find a suspended bridge that leads into a mystical forest of Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden. The wooden viaduct guides hikers through the Southern German Alps and provides picturesque views of massive mountains surrounded by stunning scenery of lush green trees and the Ramsauer Dolomites emerging through a thick layer of fog.

The image was taken along the suspended Hängebrücke Klausbachtal bridge with a south-facing view of the Ramsauer Dolomites. To get to this location you'll need access to a car. There will be a fee for parking (5€). First, drive to this address: Hirschbichlstraße 26, 83486 Ramsau. Park your car at the carpark and then follow the path and sign toward Hängebrücke and reference the GPS in satellite mode to get to the exact spot I stood for this perspective. I took my photo at the end of the bridge where you have a view of the mountains. If you don't want to hike back down you can take the bus (Ramsau b.Berchtesgaden Hängebrücke stop) from mid-May to late October. The last ride is at 5pm, otherwise the departure times are approximately hourly. If you have a stroller with you, take the road Hirschbichlstraße and walk until you get to the bridge. This road is also an option for bikers, families or people with disabilities.

Tips

When to go

Best season

April, May, June, July, August, September, October

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
The summer and autumn months are the most suitable times to photograph Hängebrücke Klausbauchtal. During this time, the trees will have amazing colors. As long as it isn't closed down due to weather, you can also visit during the winter months. And although the trees won't have any leaves, you can still produce beautiful imagery with the snow.
I took the image in the late afternoon when the fog was over the mountains. You can get similar conditions during any time of the day, as long as the fog is present. To avoid tourists, I recommend visiting either early in the morning or later in the day. Please note that the shuttle bus only runs during the day.

Field tips

To more easily capture the forest, bridge and mountains, make sure to use a wide-angle lens. Wider the better!
Position yourself so you're in the center of the bridge and use the structure as a leading line to guide the eye toward the mountains.
If you're hiking with a friend, it's also great to have a person stand in as your model. Having a subject on the bridge can bring a great sense of scale into the image and the mountains will look bigger, too.
