Kesselbergstraße Road & Kochel Forest Look Down

avatar
@samoetiker
Emphasize the symmetry of this road bend as it curves through a forest in Kochel. This location is a popular destination — especially among motorcyclists who enjoy the smooth shape of the pavement as they ride along the tree-lined road. (before flying a drone, check and follow local drone regulations and permit requirements)

This drone image was taken looking down on one of the many bends along Kesselbergstraße road in Kochel. The only way to get to this location is by car. To get to where I launched my drone, I drove up the winding Kesselbergstraße road from Kochelsee. There are several parking spots on the way up and you can use the GPS coordinates to see the exact parking place of where I chose to launch my drone. From the take-off point, simply fly in a south westerly direction (to the previous bend) to find the location featured in this image.

Tips

When to go

Best season

October, November

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon
You'll have a short window of time, between the middle of October and early November, to photograph the autumn colors surrounding Kesselbergstraße.
I took this photo during the late afternoon, but you can visit this road any time of the day to get the best natural light.

Field tips

Follow local drone regulations. In Germany, you're required to have insurance and an address on your drone if they weigh more than 250g (approx. 0.5 lbs).
I recommend highlighting the symmetry of the road by positioning your drone in the middle of the bend. Aligning your drone in the center will allow you to have the shape of the road as the main element in your composition.
Be patient and wait for some car action to drive into your frame.
