This building, a plastered brick structure with sandstone parts, gives the impression of a castle gate with an impeller emblazoned like a coat of arms. The building is crowned by a wind vane in the form of a steam locomotive and in 1899, the station received a reception building based on designs by Karl Cornelius. The rest of the complex was also redesigned from its original form and had two access tunnels — one of which (pictured here) is still in operation today.
