The Grand Staircase in the 19th-century Palais Garnier is nothing short of magnificent, making each visitor feel like they've just walked into a royal palace rather than an opera house. And although there's a lot to be seen in the performance house, the architecture's creator, Charles Garnier, was spot on when he proclaimed, "The opera is the staircase" after completing construction of the famed double steps.
