Designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, this museum staircase spirals into a mesmerizing display of concise and geometric design. After visiting the staircase, explore the rest of the museum for a taste of urban landscape in Shanghai — a huge collection of Chinese artifacts are waiting for you!

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Morning, Mid-day, Late afternoon, Sunset
Any month of year is great to visit since you're photographing the interior of the Aurora Art Museum.
You can photograph here any time during the day, but I recommend visiting in the late-afternoon when there aren't as many visitors. The museum won't allow people in prior to an hour before closing time, so plan accordingly. Please note that the museum is closed every Monday and the open hours extend to 9pm on Fridays.

Field tips

This interior space is relatively small, so I suggest using a wide-angle lens (16mm) to make your view wider. With this lens, you'll also be able to capture more detail in the architecture.
Try experimenting with the staircase, shooting from different floors and creating different perspectives. You can come up with so many unique angles using this staircase!
A subject will add a nice element for this space, so bring along a model or be patient and wait for a stranger to cross into your frame.
